Check the outlet before ordering
Measure the outlet on the pellet stove before ordering. Flue pipe Ø 80 mm has an external diameter of 80 mm, and the pipe must fit the stove outlet precisely. If the stove has an outlet of Ø100, or if the pipe is to be connected to a chimney with a larger diameter, a transition is used. Transitions are available from Ø80 to Ø100, to Ø150 in the wall, to Ø155 in the ceiling and to a cover plate of 250 mm, so a chimney pipe in 80 mm can be connected to most existing flues.
A complete run, part by part
A chimney for a pellet stove consists of two parts: the flue run from the stove and the chimney itself through the roof or external wall. Everything for the flue run is available here, while the chimney is built or adapted by an installer.
Starting from the stove and moving upwards, the run begins with a straight pipe, or with a T-piece with a soot trap if it is to go vertically up from the outlet. This is followed by straight flue pipes and possibly a telescopic pipe, adjusted to the exact length. Where the run changes direction, bends of 45 or 90 degrees are fitted. If the pipe passes through a wall or ceiling, it is fitted in a wall sleeve or a transition, and the run is assembled and finished with coupling sleeves, pipe supports and a rosette from flue pipe accessories. Measure the total length of the run, and count bends and penetrations before ordering, so all parts are included in the same order. A complete overview of the pipe types can be found under flue pipes for pellet stoves.
The requirements for installing a chimney for a pellet stove vary, so follow the manufacturer's manual and local regulations, and have the installation approved by a chimney sweep before the stove is put into use.
Cleaning hatch at every change of direction
A cleaning hatch provides access to the pipe from the inside and should preferably be fitted at every change of direction, where soot and ash collect. Both bends and straight pipes are available with a cleaning hatch, so access can be built directly into the run. Because the pipe is under overpressure, the hatch must seal tightly, and the gasket in the cleaning hatch should be replaced when it has become hard or leaky, so smoke does not escape while the stove is running. Both cleaning hatches and gaskets for them are available in the range, and the pipe is cleaned through the hatch with a cleaning brush in 80 mm on a long cable.
